The Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) network is organizing a Learning Days workshop for principal investigators (PIs) in Latin America. This five-day event aims to spread the concepts and tools of experimental methodology for social science research. The workshop will cover sessions on key aspects in the design of experimental impact evaluations, presentations of experimental research, statistical exercises (with and without statistical software), and individual advisory sessions for participants to work on their own research designs. Key topics include causal inference, hypothesis testing, randomization, power, average treatment effects, non-compliance, and more. Accepted applicants will be expected to complete a brief preparatory exercise before arriving for the workshop.<\/p>\n

Organization<\/em>: This event is organized by\u00a0Maarten\u00a0Voors (Wageningen University, EGAP Trainings Director) and Andr\u00e9s Moya (Universidad de los Andes). In addition,\u00a0Jake\u00a0Bowers (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, EGAP Methods Director), Natalia Garbiras D\u00edaz (University of California, Berkeley), and other EGAP members will participate as workshop instructors.Scholarships<\/em>: Accepted applicants will be contacted to coordinate travel details and request additional information. The workshop\u2019s organizers will cover the financial costs of: airfare to and from the workshop location, lodging (for attendees from outside Bogot\u00e1), breakfast\/lunch\/snacks, and a celebratory dinner the last night. Participants are responsible for other dinners, visa arrangements, and incidentals.<\/p>\n

: The workshop is designed for principal investigators–i.e. professors, post-doctoral fellows, PhD students, and NGO\/government agency evaluators who implement experimental research projects on programs related to institutions, governance, and development. The workshop is limited to applicants based (anywhere) in Latin America. Applicants must have training in social sciences, and should have basic knowledge of statistics and\/or econometrics. Prior familiarity with statistical sofware is a plus, but not a requirement. Finally, as the sessions will be conducted in English, applicants must have a professional command of the language (reading and speaking). In order to maintain a productive atmosphere, the meeting will have a maximum of 15 participants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
