From the understandings about financing for development, the mechanisms for international development cooperation, planning and implementation of public policies, to the building of international norms and rules, the 2030 Agenda is an essential policy framework.

Likewise, it raises criticisms about the conceptions of sustainable development and reflections on the controversies related to the economic, social and environmental setbacks experienced in different parts of the planet.

Meridiano 47, Journal of Global Studies will receive articles for a special dossier on the topic, to be published in 2020.With the publication of the “International Relations 2030: the Sustainable Development Goals in the Global Political Agenda” dossier, we seek to contribute to the debates on the impacts of the 2030 Agenda on international relations, from a multidisciplinary and critical perspective, which also encompasses the multiplicity of themes that make up the SDGs. Therefore, it is suggested some reflections on the following topics:

How to understand the temporality regime of the global development agenda from a perspective of global history and transnational history?

How has the concept of sustainable development evolved in international studies and how is it connected to the search for balance between the economic, environmental and social development?

How can the international relations theoretical perspectives contribute to understand the normative and institutional framework constituted around the Sustainable Development Goals?

How can the regulatory framework established with the SDGs and its set of targets influence the internationalization of these commitments and the implementation of policies aimed at sustainable development?

How the SDGs sets are addressed in international relations and what global dilemmas impact the implementation of goals related to poverty alleviation, access to health and education, gender equality, violence reduction, etc.

How are the environmental problems being addressed by different governments and what are the impacts on the climate change regime?

Which governance mechanisms are most appropriate and what is the role of some critical actors (governments, civil society, business and international organizations) in the implementation of the SDGs?

How traditional official development assistance mechanisms and new forms and modalities of international development cooperation can affect the implementation of the SDGs?

Thiago Gehre Galvão (Adjunct Professor at the Institute of International Relations at the University of Brasilia) and Henrique Zeferino de Menezes (Adjunct Professor at the Department of International Relations at the Federal University of Paraíba) are the guest editors responsible for the dossier.
