Description<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This panel aims to discuss the elite studies in Latin America and Southern Europe. Both regions were subject of deep analysis after democracy transitions and consolidation in the 1990 decade. Recently, after 30 years of democracy the region faces interesting cases of populism, renovation of political party systems and a new meaning of left and right in their elite political speeches. If we analyze recent empirical evidence and political analysis, there are big tensions of how political class is selected inside their organizations and political parties, how they interact with other elites and the new strategies elites use over masses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How elites role and composition have changed after these political processes? To which extent elites still matter and what they do in these new democratic context?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To answer this question we welcome research regarding the study of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– National and subnational political, economical, cultural and religios elites
– Power relations among these elites
– Political careers, representation and political attitudes of elites
– Relationship between public institutions and elites
– Elites as a cause of democratic discontent
– New strategies of elites on social networks, speeches and mass media<\/p>\n\n\n\n
