Reassessing the Authoritarianism: Political Violence Nexus<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Submission Deadline: 23 March 2015<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Political\u00a0Perspectives\u00a0is a peer-reviewed electronic journal\u00a0for\u00a0postgraduate research in\u00a0political\u00a0studies edited by postgraduate students at the University of Manchester. The journal\u2019s primary aim is to engender intellectual conversations across politics and facilitate graduate students on their pathway to publication.<\/p>\n

The special forthcoming issue focuses on the concepts of authoritarianism and political violence. In the light of recent global events, there is a clear need to carefully re-assess the two phenomena, to re-interpret their role within contemporary political life. The growth of the extreme right in Europe, the violent responses to popular movements in Venezuela, Thailand and Turkey, and the Israeli military campaign in Gaza have once again put the distinction between democracy\/authoritarianism into question, rendering the boundaries between legitimate and illegitimate violence somehow less translucent. Hence, this issue of Political Perspectives is dedicated to analysis of authoritarian expressions within contexts of presumed democratic progress.<\/p>\n

We will consider contributions that are focused on, but not restricted to, the following questions:<\/p>\n
