{"id":7301,"date":"2015-12-12T09:52:15","date_gmt":"2015-12-12T12:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alacip.org\/?p=7301"},"modified":"2015-12-12T09:52:15","modified_gmt":"2015-12-12T12:52:15","slug":"2016-electoral-integrity-graduate-student-essay-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alacip.org\/?p=7301","title":{"rendered":"2016 Electoral Integrity graduate student essay competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alacip.org\/?attachment_id=7272\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7272\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7272\" src=\"https:\/\/alacip.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/unnamed.png\" alt=\"unnamed\" width=\"864\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alacip.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/unnamed.png 864w, https:\/\/alacip.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/unnamed-300x49.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and the Electoral Integrity Project (EIP; Harvard University &amp; University of Sydney) call for submissions\u00a0for the\u00a0<strong>2016 Electoral Integrity\u00a0graduate student essay competition<\/strong> on electoral integrity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The award will be presented to the author (or authors) of an outstanding graduate student essay written in English, based on the paper\u2019s significant contribution to the theory and practice of electoral integrity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The theme for this year\u2019s essay competition is in line with a workshop on electoral integrity held prior to the 2016 IPSA World Congress in Istanbul. This workshop is titled \u201c<em>Contentious elections, conflict and regime change<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Global concern about contentious elections has risen as elections have spread worldwide, becoming a standard part of the initial phases of peace-building and state-building processes even in inhospitable conditions, such as in Afghanistan, Libya, Nepal, and Iraq.\u00a0This competition welcomes papers that <em>seek to examine and explain the consequences of contentious elections and election-related conflict for regime stability and change.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Application instructions<\/strong>:\u00a0Submissions must be received by <strong>Monday 29 February 2016<\/strong>, papers are welcome from students enrolled in a graduate program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Papers are welcome from students enrolled in a graduate program (at Masters Level, Doctoral Level, or equivalent) in 2015 and\/or 2016 at an accredited university, regardless of gender, age, nationality, race, ethnicity, or citizenship.\u00a0Co-authored papers will be considered for the award, but only if all authors were\/are graduate students during 2015\/2016. The winning paper will be selected by a three-person award committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The award recipient will be notified by 1 March 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Award details:\u00a0<\/strong>The author (or authors) of the winning paper will receive an award of US$750 and a further award (up to US$1,000) for the costs of attending the award ceremony at the pre-IPSA Workshop on Electoral Integrity in Istanbul in July 2016.
