ANA CÉLIA CASTRO is a full professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Her main duties are serving as Director of the Brazilian College of High Studies (CBAE / UFRJ); as vice-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Public Policies, Strategies and Development at the Institute of Economics (PPED-IE) at UFRJ; as vice-coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Public Policies, Strategies and Development (INCT / PPED); and as a member of the board of the Institute for Brazil- China Studies (IBRACH). Her academic interests on the area of interdisciplinarity, with a focus on institutional economics and an emphasis on the following themes: knowledge
governance, innovation and intellectual property, comparative state capacities and innovation in agribusiness.
RENATO RAUL BOSCHI is an associate professor of political science at IESP/UERJ (Institute for Social and Political Studies of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, formerly IUPERJ) and is also a retired full professor at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais). He was Senior Fulbright/CAPES visiting professor at CUNY in 2006; a visiting professor at the Institut d’Études Politiques de Toulouse in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009; and Directeur de Recherche Associé at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Paris in 2009, in addition to teaching at Stanford, Duke, and Michigan in previous years as visiting professor, and every year since 2010 he has been invited to the EHESS in Paris as lecturer. He is a rated 1A top researcher at CNPQ (Brazilian National Research Council) and coordinates the research network INCT / PPED, which is dedicated to studying varieties of capitalism and development perspectives in Brazil. He obtained a doctoral degree in political science from the University of Michigan in 1978. He is the author of several books on entrepreneurs, interest representation, the state, and capitalist development in Brazil. Among his most recent books are Varieties of Capitalism, Politics and Development in Latin America, Belo Horizonte, UFMG Editora, 2011; and Development and Semi-periphery: Postneoliberal Trajectories in South America and Central Eastern Europe, Anthem Press 2012.
